River Seine Experience Cruise
Friday 25th October 2019
Departing from Dublin
Discover scenic Normandy
This autumn River Seine Experience Cruise begins with a chance to discover Liverpool’s impressive cultural heritage. Cruise the beautiful River Seine to historic Rouen where an overnight stay on board Magellan allows you to explore this ‘city of hundred spires’ and walk in the footsteps of Joan of Arc. Perhaps opt to visit Monet’s celebrated house and garden at Giverny. Honfleur will delight you with its cobbled streets, old harbour and chance to discover the Normandy countryside.
Rouen is the historic capital of Normandy, situated 75 miles from the Seine estuary. Victor Hugo called Rouen ‘the city of a hundred spires’. Its Old Town is a delightful maze of narrow, cobblestone streets lined with wonderful gothic churches including the magnificent Cathedrale Notre Dame and the Eglise St. Maclou. Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in 1431 at Rouen’s Place du Vieux-Marche.
Further upriver from Rouen is the village of Giverny and the home of Claude Monet, who captured the beauty of Rouen in many of his impressionist paintings.
Honfleur, with its narrow, half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets and charming old harbour is set in a sheltered cove off the Seine’s tidal estuary. Unlike many of its Normandy neighbours, Honfleur was spared during the bombing of World War Two and nestled in its tidy, picturesque streets historic buildings house art galleries, artists’ studios, boutiques, restaurants, cafes and fine souvenir shops.
