England’s Magnificent Lake District
Friday July 29th – Tuesday August 2nd 2022
The Lake District is known as England’s “breathing space” and is by far the UK’s most popular National Park. Every year, some 15 million people explore the region’s fells and countryside and it’s not hard to see why. It is a postcard panorama of craggy hilltops, mountain tarns and glittering lakes and you will reluctantly depart this enchanting place but will leave with some wonderful memories.
Your Holiday Itinerary
Meet your coach and travel by ferry from Dublin to the UK. Journey via the stunning North Welsh coast and arrive at your Lake District Hotel in time for your evening meal.
This morning, take a ride on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, which runs for 3 ½ miles along the banks of River Leven, to Lakeside Station. From there we will board one of the steamer services cruising to Bowness. In the afternoon enjoy the magic of the Beatrix Potter Centre in Bowness-on-Windermere, visiting the wonderful landscape where her tales are brought to life. Board the steamer in late afternoon for a return to Lakeside.
Today we will visit Keswick, travelling via the spectacular Kirkstone Pass to the south of Lake Ullswater for some of the best views of the whole district. Keswick is nestled between the North Lakeland Fells and Derwentwater – England’s widest lake. Return via Grasmere, the home of William Wordsworth and enjoy a visit to Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum.
Today we will travel to Sizergh Castle in the morning, which sits at the gateway to the Lake District. Originally a fortified castle with over 700 years of family history, this unexpected treasure covers 647 hectares. In the afternoon travel on towards Chester where we will be staying for the last night of the tour.
Enjoy some free time in Chester city centre before taking the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin, time to ponder the wonderful sights you have experienced during your holiday in the English Lake District!
