Escape the crowds in search of warmer climes on this Azores and Madeira Portuguese Cruise south to some of the most beautiful Atlantic Isles. With their volcanic craters, lush valleys, sheer cliffs and tranquil lakes, the unspoilt Azores are an absolute delight. Discover lovely Madeira, the ‘floating garden of the Atlantic’, plus the historic and colourful cities of La Coruña and Lisbon, bringing contrasts to this wonderful cruise.

La Coruña

A charming mix of both modern city and old town, La Coruña is capital of the Spanish province bearing the same name in the rugged and beautiful region of Galicia. Beautiful old streets and squares are found in Ciudad Vieja. The heart of this old town is the colonnaded Maria Pita Square surrounded by delightful shops, cafes and restaurants.

Horta

Horta is a colourful small port on Faial Island, one of the nine volcanic islands that make up the Azores.
Taking its name from the Dutch explorer Josse van Huerter who first settled there in 1467, Horta became a convenient stop over for transatlantic journeys thanks to its location in the North Atlantic.

Ponta Delgada

Ponta Delgada is the capital of São Miguel, which is the largest of the nine islands in the Azores archipelago. It has a small town charm with squares paved with black and white tiles, beautiful churches, and public buildings with white-painted facades and dark volcanic stone trim. Volcanic activity has produced spectacular scenery on the islands and this extraordinary natural beauty is a highlight of optional excursions.

Funchal, Madeira

Set in a magnificent natural amphitheatre overlooking a wide bay, Funchal is the delightful capital of the beautiful and dramatic island of Madeira. The harbour is right in the centre of town and as you approach the sight of whitewashed buildings with red tiled roofs tumbling down the verdant mountain is spectacular.

Lisbon

Lisbon, Portugal’s capital city, is home to the magnificent Jeronimos Monastery, Belem Tower, 25th April Bridge and Monument of the Discoveries. Wander through the maze of narrow streets in the delightful Alfama district and ride one of the famous old trams.
