Armagh’s Orchard County

Known as the Orchard county, Armagh is the smallest county in Northern Ireland, but it has so much to offer for visitors. This ancient city is famous for its cathedrals and was also the place where the Ulster kings once ruled from. This tour takes in the history of the city and its most important buildings, from imposing cathedrals to ancient forts and stargazing in the city’s Planetarium, the longest running planetarium in the British Isles. We will also visit nearby Navan Centre & Fort as well as Brownlow House/Lurgan Castle.
Your Holiday Itinerary
Board your luxury coach and make your way to Armagh City. We will enjoy a visit to the National Stud & Japanese Gardens in Co. Kildare before arriving in Armagh.
Today we will begin with a Morning on the Hill walking tour to learn about 3 of the city’s most important historic buildings, St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral, The Registry and Armagh Robinson Library. Enjoy a guided tour of St Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral before an afternoon visit to Navan Centre & Fort to experience the first Capital of Ulster in the Celtic era.
This morning we will take a tour of the Armagh Planetarium before we travel to Brownlow House (Lurgan Castle) for a tour and some afternoon tea. Brownlow was designed and built as a, ‘Calendar House’. Four wings, one for each season of the year; 7 external doors, one for each day of the week; 12 external corners, one for each month of the year;.52 chimneys, one for each week of the year and finally 365 rooms, one for each day of the year.
Enjoy some free time to explore before a late morning departure from the city.
